Info about Tourism
Tourism continues to bring in massive amounts of money for a number of countries. In the UK alone in 2007 Britain alone had 32.8million overseas visitors that on average spent around 16 million. This makes Britain's visitors' economy worth a massive 86 billion. Britain doesn't just make its money from overseas visitors, but also from Brits taking trips within the UK themselves this has been especially the case in the current times due to people not being able to afford the cost of going to holiday aboard. This was the case in 2007 when Brits took 120 million overnight trips with in the UK; bring in 21 billion for the economy.
The tourism industry is set to continue to increase; the World Tourism Organisation has estimated that over the next 5 years we will globally see an increase by 4.1%. This can only great things for everyone's economy. For Britain alone this increase allows them to give people who wouldn't be able to get employment without the tourist industry, meaning that more people are able to get long term job security. This is particularly the case for people living in rural areas where the traditional jobs have deceased, this has meant that the distributions of wealth in urban and rural areas is now a more equal. The tourist industry doesn't just benefit the larger companies but many small and medium size companies also make a lot of money off the back of tourists.
The most popular tourist attraction in the UK is the one and only Blackpool Pleasure Beach! The beach has been open to tourist since 1896 but has seen a decline in tourists over a number of years, however it is the most visited paid tourist attraction in the UK. Most British families these days do prefer a european holiday opting for the beautiful sunny beaches of Europe. Top european destination include Spain, France, Italy and Greece.
In 2007 the tops six highest earning countries due to the tourist industry were the USA, Spain, France, Italy, China and the UK.
